Set Up Voicemail on Android
- 1
Open the Phone app and access voicemail
Open the Phone app. Either: tap the Voicemail tab (if visible), hold down the 1 key on the dialpad (speed dial for voicemail on most Android phones), or tap the three dots → Settings → Voicemail. Your carrier’s voicemail system connects automatically.
- 2
Follow the setup prompts
On first access, the voicemail system walks you through: setting a PIN (4–6 digits, used to access voicemail remotely), recording your personal greeting (what callers hear), and confirming your mailbox number. Follow the spoken prompts to complete setup.
Access Voicemail Messages
Tap the Voicemail tab in the Phone app, or hold the 1 key. Messages are listed with caller ID and time. Tap to play. Delete after listening to keep the mailbox clear. Most carriers charge for voicemail storage beyond a certain limit — deleting messages regularly avoids this.
Change Your Voicemail Greeting
Call into voicemail (hold 1) and navigate to Settings or Personal Options in the voicemail menu. Select Greeting or Personal Greeting to re-record. The menus vary by carrier — Telstra, Optus and Vodafone each have slightly different voicemail systems.
