Why Planet Fitness Makes Cancellation Difficult
Planet Fitness intentionally limits cancellation to in-person or mail methods — there is no online cancellation portal and phone cancellations are not accepted. This is by design, not a technical limitation. Knowing the exact process saves frustration.
Method 1: Cancel In Person (Easiest)
- 1
Visit your home club
You must go to the specific Planet Fitness location you signed up at (your “home club”). Other locations may not process your cancellation. Bring photo ID and your membership details.
- 2
Ask for a cancellation form
Tell the front desk you want to cancel your membership. Ask for the cancellation form and fill it out completely. Sign and date it.
- 3
Get written confirmation
Ask for a copy of the completed form or written confirmation that your cancellation has been processed. This is essential — without it, you have no proof of cancellation if billing continues.
- 4
Check your bank statement
Monitor your bank or credit card for the next 1–2 billing cycles to confirm billing has stopped. If a charge appears after cancellation, you have your written confirmation to dispute it with Planet Fitness and your bank.
Method 2: Cancel by Certified Mail
- 5
Write a cancellation letter
Include: your full name, address, date of birth, membership number (on your key tag or account), and a clear statement that you wish to cancel your membership effective immediately (or a specific date). Sign the letter.
- 6
Send via certified mail with return receipt
Send to your home club’s address. Use Australia Post registered mail or certified mail so you have proof of delivery with a date stamp. Keep the tracking number and delivery confirmation.
If You Cannot Visit In Person
If you have moved away from your home club or are unable to visit: call the club and explain your situation. Some clubs will accept a mailed cancellation letter. The certified mail method is your best option if in-person is not possible. If billing continues after a documented cancellation attempt, contact your bank to dispute the charges and block future debits.
