Method 1: iPhone to iPhone (Easiest)

  1. 1

Ensure both phones have Bluetooth and WiFi on

Both phones need Bluetooth enabled (not just WiFi). The phones need to be near each other — within about a metre.

  2. 2

On the new phone, try to join the WiFi network

Go to Settings → WiFi → tap the network name. The password field appears.

  3. 3

On the existing phone, tap Share Password

A prompt automatically appears on the phone already connected to the network. Tap Share Password. The password transfers to the new phone instantly — no typing required.

Method 2: Find Your WiFi Password (to type or share manually)

  • iPhone (iOS 16+): Settings → WiFi → tap the (i) next to the connected network → tap Password → authenticate with Face ID or passcode to reveal it.
  • Mac: System Settings → WiFi → Details → Password field → click the eye icon to reveal.
  • Windows: Settings → Network and Internet → WiFi → Hardware Properties → Show next to Password field.
  • Android: Settings → WiFi → tap the connected network → Share (shows a QR code and the password below it).

Method 3: Share via QR Code (Android)

On Android: Settings → WiFi → tap the connected network → Share. A QR code appears that others can scan with their phone camera to join instantly. Works with any phone camera app — point at the QR code and tap the WiFi join prompt.

Create a guest network for visitorsRather than sharing your main WiFi password, set up a separate guest network in your router settings. Guest networks are isolated from your main network (visitors cannot access your shared files or devices). Most modern routers support this — look for Guest Network in the router admin settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

The automatic iPhone-to-iPhone Share Password feature only works between Apple devices. For iPhone to Android: find the password manually (Settings → WiFi → tap (i) → Password on iOS 16+) and type it, or connect to the router admin page at 192.168.0.1 and check Wireless settings for the password. On Android, sharing a QR code that an iPhone camera can scan also works.
If any device is currently connected to the WiFi, use that device to reveal the password (methods above). If no device is connected and you cannot remember, log into your router admin page via an ethernet cable (even if WiFi is not working, a wired connection to 192.168.0.1 works). If you cannot log in, reset the router to factory defaults — see our guide on resetting a router.
