Getting Started

  1. 1

    Access Google Calendar

Visit calendar.google.com in any browser, or download the Google Calendar app (iPhone or Android). Sign in with your Google account. Your calendar opens showing the current week by default. Switch views using the buttons top right: Day, Week, Month, Schedule.

  2. 2

    Create an event

Click or tap any time slot on the calendar. A quick event creation window appears — type a title and click More Options for full details. Or click the + Create button for a full event form: title, date and time, location, description, guests (by email address), and video call link (Google Meet, auto-generated). Click Save when done.

  3. 3

    Set recurring events

For repeating appointments: in the event editor, click the Does not repeat dropdown → choose Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Annually or Custom. Custom allows patterns like “every second Tuesday” or “first Monday of each month.”

  4. 4

Create multiple calendars for different areas of life

In the left sidebar under My Calendars, click the + next to Other Calendars → Create new calendar. Name it (Work, Personal, Family, Gym etc). Each calendar has its own colour. You can show or hide individual calendars by clicking the coloured checkbox. This keeps different areas of life visually separated.

  5. 5

    Share a calendar

In the left sidebar, hover over a calendar → click the three dots → Settings and sharing. Under Share with specific people, add someone’s email and set their permissions (see all events, edit events, or manage sharing). They receive an invitation to view your calendar. Useful for sharing a Family calendar or Work project calendar.

  • Tasks integration: Add tasks directly to the calendar view alongside events.
  • Import other calendars: Subscribe to public calendars (sports schedules, public holidays) via Settings → Add calendar → From URL or Browse calendars of interest.
Australian public holidaysAdd Australian public holidays: in the left sidebar → Other calendars → Browse calendars of interest → find Australian public holidays for your state. These appear automatically on your calendar each year.
