Method 1: Auto-Search (Works on Most Remotes)

  1. 1

Press and hold the Setup or Code Search button

Hold the Setup (or Code Search) button until the indicator light stays on or blinks twice. The remote is now in programming mode.

  2. 2

    Press the TV button once

Press the TV button on the remote. The indicator light should blink and then stay on.

  3. 3

Point at the TV and press Power repeatedly

Point the remote directly at your TV. Press the Power button slowly, once per second. The remote is scanning through thousands of codes automatically. Keep pressing until the TV turns off.

  4. 4

Press Enter or Mute to save the code

The moment the TV turns off, immediately press Enter (or Mute, depending on the remote model) to save the code. Turn the TV back on with the Power button to confirm it works. Test volume and channel controls.

Method 2: Direct Code Entry

  1. 5

    Find your TV's code

Look up the code for your TV brand in the manual that came with your universal remote. If you do not have the manual, search "[remote brand] [TV brand] codes" β€” e.g. "Logitech Samsung remote codes". Codes are typically 3–5 digits.

  2. 6

Enter programming mode and type the code

Hold Setup until the LED blinks. Press the TV button. Enter the code using the number buttons. The LED blinks twice if accepted. Test by pressing Power β€” the TV should respond.

  3. 7

Try multiple codes if the first does not work

Most TV brands have several possible codes. Work through the list of codes for your brand, testing each one until you find the one that works fully (power, volume AND channels).

Programming for cable/satellite boxesThe same process applies for setting up a universal remote to control a cable box, Foxtel, streaming box or sound bar β€” use the appropriate button (Cable, Sat, AUX) instead of TV in step 2, and find codes for that specific device brand.

Frequently Asked Questions
