Delete Gmail vs Delete Google Account β Know the Difference
You can delete just your Gmail address while keeping your Google account (and YouTube, Google Drive, Google Photos etc). Or you can delete the entire Google account. This guide covers both.
How to Delete Just Your Gmail Address
- 1
Download your Gmail data first
Go to myaccount.google.com β Data & Privacy β Download your data. Select Gmail and download. This saves all your emails before deletion.
- 2
Go to myaccount.google.com
Sign in to the Google account you want to modify.
- 3
Go to Data & Privacy
Scroll down and click Data & Privacy in the left sidebar.
- 4
Click Delete a Google service
Scroll to the section labelled Download or delete your data. Click Delete a Google service.
- 5
Click the bin icon next to Gmail
You will be asked to provide an alternative non-Gmail email address so you can still sign in to your Google account. Enter one and verify it.
- 6
Confirm deletion
Follow the confirmation steps. Your Gmail address and all emails are permanently deleted. Your Google account remains intact with the new sign-in email.
