When to Clean β Timing Matters
Clean your waffle maker while it is still warm but not hot enough to burn you. Warm plates release food much more easily than completely cold ones. Do not wait until it is fully cold β batter hardens and sticks more firmly as it cools.
- 1
Unplug and let cool to warm (not hot)
Unplug the waffle maker immediately after use. Wait 5β10 minutes until the plates are warm enough to clean but not so hot they burn your hands.
- 2
Wipe with a damp cloth or paper towel
Use a slightly damp cloth or folded paper towel. Wipe across the plates to remove fresh batter and grease. The non-stick surface should release most residue easily while still warm.
- 3
Use a soft brush for stuck bits
A soft-bristled pastry brush or old toothbrush is ideal for getting into the grid pattern. Never use metal utensils, steel wool or abrasive scrubbers β they permanently damage the non-stick coating.
- 4
For stubborn stuck batter β damp paper towel trick
Fold a paper towel into a small square, dampen it with water and close the waffle maker on it for 2β3 minutes. The steam loosens stuck batter. Open and wipe away.
- 5
Wipe with a dry cloth to finish
Remove any moisture to prevent rust on any metal components. Leave the lid open for a few minutes to allow any residual moisture to evaporate before storing.
If Plates Are Removable
Some waffle makers have removable plates. If yours does, check the manual β many are dishwasher-safe or can be gently washed in warm soapy water. Dry completely before reattaching.
